Austin Diary + Places to Visit in Austin, Texas

I love to travel whether it be in my own backyard or a far-off destination. The summer months are my favorite times to travel so this past summer I decided to check out Austin, Texas. It was my second visit to the city and I was reminded of how much I love the laid-back vibe, greenery, and amazing food. 10 out of 10 for sure. Here’s a round up of some places I think you should check out if you’re ever in Austin.

Zilker Botanical Gardens – If you’re longing for some outdoor activities, you should definitely head to Austin’s very own botanical garden! One of the most unique botanical gardens I’ve been to. It’s a great way to get in touch with nature and I love the waterfall that’s surrounded by lush greenery.

Salt Lick Cellars – Ok, technically this is about 30 minutes outside of Austin, but it is worth the trip if you enjoy a good wine tasting! I went mid-day, during the week and it was very quiet, but you can tell the outside space is meant for entertaining into the night. As you end your tasting, step on over to their restaurant to fill up on BBQ before hitting the road back to Austin. I took a different route leaving the city than I did coming in and was able to spot some beautiful homes and ranches on the way.

Murals – Austin is known for its street art. Take a quick ride around you’ll see that it’s chock full of murals paying homage to this great city. Great for photo ops.

The Austin Bouldering Project – Everything’s bigger in Texas and their bouldering gym is no exception! Known for being the world’s largest bouldering gym, The Austin Bouldering Project made my heart flutter. I like to find ways to be active on my getaways and this was the perfect way to sneak it in. Whether you’re a beginner or expert, this climbing gym is definitely a place you should check out.

Take A Dip – Austin in the summer gets HOT. What better way to cool down than to visit one of their popular community watering holes like Barton Springs Pool?

This may or may not be an accurate representation of how much sweating you’ll do during the summer time in Texas. Thanks, Zilker Botanical Garden.

It’s always nice to visit a city’s botanical garden to see what kind of greenery thrives in its environment.
