I received a low B on the first exam and I’m happy with this grade, though I would like to get a high B or an A next time. I didn’t get a chance to review the last chapter for the exam as much as the previous subjects. I believe that reviewing that last chapter would have brought my grade to at least a mid or high B. I think my studying schedule was the reason why I was unable to thoroughly review the last chapter. I currently spend less than one hour studying on Mondays and Tuesdays. On Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, I can get about 2-3 hours of studying complete. Weekends is the time for me to get the most studying done.
When I study, I like to read the textbook. I know this is frowned upon, but. I find that our textbook is extremely helpful in understanding the objectives. After I read the chapter, I will glance over the notes provided in the content section of iCollege and then take the quizzes. I do this primarily on the weekends because that’s when I have the most time to focus. Throughout the week, I will mostly listen to lectures and work on lab assignments.
This method isn’t perfect, and I know there is room for improvement. I would like to be able to complete all chapter quizzes at least a week before the actual exam. By doing this, I can allot a lot of my time to studying for the exam a full week in advance instead of using part of that time to finish up quizzes.
For Exam 2, I am on track to completing the last chapter within 4 days of the exam. I changed my study schedule by giving myself a deadline to complete each chapter. This forced me to prioritize studying and reading content. I also read the chapter objectives posted on iCollege and make sure I start my textbook reading by zoning in on those topics. By doing this, I can save time and won’t have to read the entire chapter. This leaves me time to go back and review topics deeper at the end.
I enjoy reading the entire chapter of our textbook, though, because I really think I learn and retain the information better this way. I understand that graduate programs are very didactic, and this method will not work for semesters where I must take four or five classes at a time. Thankfully, I am only taking two classes this semester, so I can dedicate a lot of my study time to reading for A&P. I haven’t quite figured out how to properly manage efficiently studying for several courses during one semester
